Mapping emotions

Type: Workshop, Map
Year: 2025

I recently had the pleasure of co-leading a creative project for the Time2 Foundation, consisting of a series of illustration workshops. My colleague on this project was the talented illustrator and friend, Francesca Tabasso.

The project involved two groups of young people with neurodivergence and disabilities, inviting them to explore, interpret and reimagine their relationship with urban spaces through drawing.

The process
We began by working on drawing style and visual expression. Participants were asked to reflect on what they liked or disliked about the city, starting from their immediate surroundings and gradually expanding to their neighbourhoods. We used sticky notes to help them arrange, review and revise their ideas.

This approach led to the creation of a large, collective draft based on the participants' personal experiences and desires.
The final map
The final map shows the city of Turin divided into areas and neighbourhoods. Participants selected meaningful places based on their experiences, dreams or daily routines.

Interestingly, many parts of the map remain empty. These gaps reflect unknown or inaccessible parts of the city and are meant to spark discussion about how urban space is not always inclusive or easily navigable for neurodivergent or disabled youth.

After collecting and organising the group's input, I reworked the draft into a clearer, accessible map that maintains the expressive richness of the original contributions.

Exhibition
The two maps created by the workshop groups were exhibited at the Time2 Foundation headquarters in June 2025 as part of a programme focusing on inclusive creativity and accessibility.
